Robe Beacon Hill Billy Cart Championships

Robe Beacon Hill Billy Cart Championships   October 2010

Come & join in the fun for the inaugural running of the Beacon Hill Billy cart championships. This is a fund raising event run by Robe & District Lions Club.

Entries open 31st August and close 1st October.

6 categories:  Under 15's

Young Guns  (15 - 17)

Open  (over 18)

Experts  (grandparents)

Novelty  &  Team Challenge

All Billy carts must be hand made.

Practice runs & handicapping will be carried out pre event and full catering (Breakfast & Lunch) will be available at the site on the day.

Prizes will be awarded to first & second in each class, and to the crowd favourite novelty cart.

Organizers are confident that competition will be fierce to be the first to have their names chiseled onto the "King of the Mountain" perpetual trophy, which will be crafted by a local artist.

Full details will be available for driver and cart specifications, but basically billy cart specifications are:

 

(For under 15’s and young guns (15-17)

.Overall width less than 1200mm

.Box cart – essentially made from wooden material

.May have one driver and one passenger

.Must have two axles, minimum wheel spacing 400mm

.Maximum weight of cart must not exceed 70kg excluding driver

 

(For open (18 and over), Experts (grandparents) Novelty and team challenge):

.maximum weight of cart must not exceed 100kg excluding driver

.Dimensions are open.

For all race categories:

.must have at least 4 pneumatic or solid tyre vehicles

.billy cart must have an adequate steering mechanism

.billy cart must have a working brake – not your foot on the road or wheel

.There must be sturdy construction of all billy cart components, and fixed seating.

.all components must be adequately secured to the cart such that in the event of a piece of cart “breaking off” it doesn’t interfere with spectators or other competitors.

.no dangerous protrusions

.no motors, sails, pedals, paddles, or any other propulsion device

.no spoked wheels unless covered securely by sturdy material.
